Foster & Kinship Family Support

Support. Connection. Community.

You Are Not Alone

Caring for a child through foster care, kinship placement, or adoption is meaningful—but it can also be overwhelming. At Sotera, we believe caregivers deserve support, connection, and access to practical resources close to home. Our Foster & Kinship Support services are designed to walk alongside families—offering encouragement, resources, and community every step of the way.

How We Support Families

Sotera provides practical, relationship-based support through:

• Access to essential items through our Foster Closet
• Community events that bring families together
• Connection to local resources and partner organizations
• Support through real-life, day-to-day needs

Our goal is simple: to make sure families feel supported, prepared, and connected.

Foster Closet

Our Foster Closet provides free access to:

• Clothing for infants through teens (and beyond)
• Shoes, coats, and seasonal items
• Baby supplies and essentials
• Hygiene and everyday care items

All items are generously donated by our community.

While the closet is designed to support foster and kinship families, anyone in need is welcome to access these resources.

Comfort Cases for Emergency Placements

Sotera provides comfort cases for children entering foster or kinship care during emergency placements. These cases include essential items such as:

• Pajamas and clothing
• Hygiene items
• A blanket or stuffed animal
• Age-appropriate items to provide comfort and stability

Comfort cases are available to foster families, kinship families, and DSS and placement providers and are designed to ensure that children entering care have something of their own from the very beginning. If you are a caregiver, caseworker or placement provider in need of a comfort case, please contact us.

Community & Connection

We believe support doesn’t just come from services—it comes from community. Sotera hosts events throughout the year designed to create welcoming, low-pressure spaces where families can connect, access resources, and feel supported.

Fork & Film

A family-centered community event that brings caregivers, children, and community partners together for a shared meal, a film, and meaningful connection.

Seasonal Clothing Swap & Open House

Our seasonal clothing swaps provide families access to gently used clothing for children and teens, along with opportunities to connect with resources and support.

Annual Christmas Party

A special event for foster and kinship families that provides a shared meal, entertainment, and a gift for each child. This event is designed to create a joyful, memorable experience for families during the holiday season.

These events are designed to reduce stress, increase access to essentials, and remind families they are part of a supportive community.

Education & Support

Sotera is actively working to expand opportunities for caregiver education and support. Future offerings may include:

• Training opportunities for foster, kinship, and adoptive caregivers
• Informal support gatherings and connection opportunities
• Resource-sharing sessions with community partners

As these opportunities are developed, updates will be shared here.

Why This Matters

Foster and kinship families play a critical role in providing stability, safety, and care for children during times of transition. But they shouldn’t have to do it alone. Sotera exists to strengthen the support system around these families—so caregivers feel confident, children feel secure, and the community becomes part of the solution.
