Foster Parent Association
Sotera’s Foster Parent Association provides vital support, resources, and community connection for foster, kinship, and adoptive families throughout Central South Dakota.
Foster Closet
Our Foster Closet offers free clothing, shoes, coats, and baby supplies for infants through adults — all generously donated by our community. While the closet primarily serves foster and kinship families, anyone in need is welcome to access these items at no cost.
Community Events
Each year, we host two major events celebrating and supporting local foster families:
Foster Parent Appreciation Picnic – Held each May during Foster/Adoption Awareness Month, this family-friendly event features a picnic meal, games, and activities to honor foster, adoptive, and kinship parents and their children.
Annual Christmas Party – A festive celebration for local children in foster care, complete with gifts from Santa, holiday activities, games, and a warm meal. Donations of gifts or funds are welcome to help make this event special.
Please visit our [Calendar] for upcoming event dates and details.
Education & Support Groups
Beginning in 2026, the Foster Parent Association will relaunch monthly Education and Support Groups for foster parents. These sessions provide opportunities to learn about specialized topics in foster care, kinship care, and adoption — fulfilling annual training requirements while offering peer connection and encouragement. Each session lasts about one hour, and upcoming topics can be found on our [Calendar].
